Thanks to all that came out for the Mix Architekt set at Voyeur. It’s especially nice for me to play there since I designed and installed the sound system. It was the first proper work out the venue had, and as a group were able to explore the limits of frequency response, total output, and dynamics. The modded Xone:4D performed brilliantly with TP, facilitating creative mixing, loop layering, and is always a fun tool to paint with. Special thanks to Atash Maya and Eduard and Kristen of The Stove for their amazing performances and deep art. It is always a blessing to have their company on and off the stage.

We all knew this stuff would eventually surface.
Here are a few looks into the world of Xone at NAMM where I had the great company of Andy Rigby-Jones, Nick Mac, Vicky, Guru, and the rest of the UK crew. Traktor Pro is used in these demos with the MIDI maps I’ve been offering/supporting via the NI forums.
Contrary to some upset forum comments, we had no problems with our mangled and over handled units, hot swapping Macs and PCs with a variety of operating systems and applications. Morgan was using Mac OS X 10.4.2 with Live 7, Junky XL was with a slightly more recent Mac OS but had Live 6, and I was holding it down with 10.5.6 and Traktor Pro 1.0.2.
What should be noted for those exploring the 4D or 2D (which share the same audio and MIDI boards) is that clipping in the digital realm is not a good thing - especially with these units. There is no soft limiting built into them, so when you start distorting the sound card things can get out of control extremely fast. Please take care to monitor the gain structure in the host application so nothing is clipping - channels, subgroups, master buses… If you want the square wave sound as part of your chosen aesthetic, you can still mangle everything in the analogue domain by turning every knob on the mixer to 11.
